Splay Leg Cherry Table

Here is a beautiful, Solid Cherry Shaker Style End Table. The construction and finishes are in-line with the Shaker Movement, but the wood choice is over the top. The tabletop is made from selected curly cherry with a below surface doweled bread board end to provide stability. There is a drawer, but the pull is omitted intentionally in this piece. Long, turned, splayed legs (3 degrees on each axis) give the piece simple grace and provides the illusion that it floats.

These tables are a convenient size intended to have a place just about anywhere in a living room, den or study. This particular peace is intended to be viewed and admired from every angle. Measurements are 22"W x 18"D x 28"H, however, size can vary depending on the customer’s needs.

The peace is made from 4-Quarer Cherry with special attention to the wood orientation and matching, that could delay custom orders and will impact pricing. Traditional mortice and tenon construction will ensure that your heirloom will be around for many generations.

My preference is to use clear finishes on Cherry and let the piece age naturally to that ruddy reddish brown that is typical of second-generation heirlooms. Other wood choices can lend themselves to a variety of dyes, stains and finishes.

Expect 4-5 weeks to complete the peace and give the finish enough time to cure. Wood choice could also delay construction, prices and shipping. While the piece is stronger than the shipping crate, the finish takes about two weeks in dry air fully cure. Shipping charges are subject to location.
